Hello, I am Dr. Karen Yong Liu. Thank you for visiting our virtual office. Please allow me to introduce myself.

I am a board certified periodontist. In addition to diagnosis and treatment of gum diseases and oral soft tissue pathology, I specialize in cosmetic gum surgeries and dental implants placement.

My education background forms the basis from which I practice my profession. The following is a listing of my academic degrees:

  • DDS, Loma Linda University, 2004
  • Master of Science in Oral Biology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 2000
  • Clinical Certificate in Periodontology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 2000
  • Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences at University of Connecticut Health Science Center, 1997
  • DDS from West China University of Medical Sciences, 1992.

As part of my academic accomplishments, I actively participated in scientific research on bone remodeling, cranial-facial development and the relationship between gum infection and cardiovascular diseases. I cherish my unique research experiences which I believe helped me comprehend clinical situations from a much broader perspective.

I received numerous honorary awards, such as:

  • Diplomate of American Board of Periodontology
  • Academic Excellence Gold Award, Loma Linda University
  • Dean's List for every quarter in the DDS program at Loma Linda University
  • First Place Winner, Billy Pennel graduate student award, The Southern Academy of Periodontology
  • Outstanding student awards and outstanding student graduated award in West China University of Medical Sciences.

I am a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Dental Society, The American Dental Association, The California Dental Association, San Diego County dental society and The American Academy of Periodontology.

In addition to treating patients, We also hold study clubs for local dentists to get together sharing knowledge and experience. We believe this is a way of improving ourselves as well as improving team works with other dentists.

I love dentistry because it is a nice combination of science and art. Practicing dentistry satisfies my constant curiosity for science and a passion for art. More importantly, to see my patients' confident smiles is my greatest pleasure in practicing dentistry, and I am able to keep a high standard of care through participating in various continuing education programs.
